“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did...throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
What Mr Twain should have added was...WRITE! Travel is one of the greatest gifts to the creative mind; a chance to be away, to gain perspective, to have time to properly, really write.
So I'm thrilled that fellow Quercus author, poet and creative writing teacher Claire Dyer, along with myself, will be hosting Turkey's first Creative Writing Week, in the beautiful waterfront village of Kalkan in April of next year. We're hoping to welcome everyone from would-be novelists to those just starting out; anyone who loves writing as much as we do.
The week will be a mix of two-hour workshops in the morning, with exercises to be done in the afternoon, along with optional excursions.
Our base will be the wonderful White House and Courtyard, in the heart of Kalkan's beautiful old town. The White House terrace (above) will become our 'Writer's Hub' for the week, where we come together to read, discuss, share - and possibly have a glass (or two!) at sunset.
We aim to run an accessible, constructive - but most of all, enjoyable, course in this beautiful part of the world. Here's what my co-host Claire has to say...
Accommodation is offered in the the simple but comfortable White House, or more luxurious Courtyard. The prices include breakfast, all tuition, two excursions, a welcome drink and final-night dinner.
White House Writer – £595 (Single)
Courtyard Writer – £745 (Single)
However, you are most welcome to bring a friend or partner to join in all the non-writing activities as follows:
White House Writer Plus One Supplement – £295
Courtyard Writer Plus One Supplement – £395
A non-refundable £100 deposit per person is required on booking to reserve your place with the balance payable by 1st March 2017.

Looking forward to chatting to Amanda Craig about her new novel, The Lie of the Land at the Steyning Festival on Friday June 1. Tickets still available.
And very excited about the biannual Ditchling Fair, on June 17th, when I'll be in the Spoken Word Tent, talking about the transition from travel writing to novels, in 'A Mongoose in my Bedroom.'
What Lies Within is currently available in TPB and E-book, and will be published in paperback on July 12.
